A big day for

local youngster

Area resident Anthony Cox Jr. got to spend some time earlier this year with the Carson High boys basketball team before its game against Douglas.

Cox began experiencing headaches in the summer of 2014, and his parents took him to see about glasses. It was discovered there was swelling behind the nerves of his eyes. An MRI revealed a mass on Cox’s brain. Doctors removed the tumor in a 16-hour operation. The tumor, according to the family, is a choroid plexus carcinoma which is cancerous. It will grow back and also will have a chance of being inoperable. The youngster went through six weeks of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant that spanned nine months at Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Cox is doing well and continues to get MRI scans every three months.
