A Cottonwood Elementary School third grade student from Fernley is the state winner of Bonnie Plants’ 3rd Grade Cabbage Program, a national vegetable gardening initiative for children.
Holmes, who grew a 24-pound cabbage, was randomly selected as a winner by the Nevada Agriculture Department. He will receive a $1,000 saving bond toward education from Bonnie Plants.
More than 1.5 million third graders in 48 states participated in the program. Third grade teachers can register their classes for the next competition by going to www.bonnieplants.com.
