Dayna Myrehn (8-9 girls), Ben Morrison (8-9 boys), Thomas Burchett (10-11 boys), Kendall McDonald (12-13 girls) and Doug Hostler (12-13 boys) won title at the recent Carson City Elks Lodge National Hoop Shoot.

The winners advance to this weekend’s district completion on Saturday in Reno.

Finishing second were: Leslie Perez-Gonzalez (8-9 girls), Joseph Burchett (8-9 boys), Anthony Larry (10-11 boys) and Luke Pedersen (12-13 boys). Alex Myrehn was third in (10-11 boys).


EV spikes South Tahoe

Raymie Brooks served up 17 points, including five aces, to lead Eagle Valley Middle School’s seventh grade volleyball team to a 25-7 and 25-11 victory over South Tahoe Middle School.

Abby Lemburg had seven service points, four aces, seven assists and one kill, Caydee Farnworth had six service points, two aces, an assists and a kill, Lauren Hawkins had five service points, including an ace, and Kedre Luschar had an ace and two kills.

In eighth-grade action, EV topped South Tahoe 25-21, 20-25 and 15-13. Kailee Luschar had eight digs, four aces, four kills and 16 assists. Camryn Quilling had 10 digs, three aces and five kills, Gabriela Avina had five digs, Emily Doddridge had an ace and five kills, Vernice Garcia contributed two digs, two aces and 24 assists, Stefanie Schmidt had two kills and Gloria Valdenegro added three digs.


Shawn Estes Night set for Feb. 6

A benefit dinner and auction is set for Feb. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at CVIC.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for kids 18 and younger. Benefits will be split between Douglas High’s baseball program and Carson Valley Girls Fastpitch Association.

Shawn Estes will be featured. He played at Douglas High before going on to a career in professional baseball. He pitched for the Giants for several years and currently works as a studio analyst for CSNBA.

Softball registration scheduled in Carson

Carson Girls Softball League has scheduled three registration dates at the MAC.

The first is set for Jan. 16, the second is Jan. 23 and the third is Feb. 6. All three sign-up sessions are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Interested parties also can register online at carsongirlssoftball.org.

Registration is $75 per player ($25 discount for a sibling). The league is open to girls from 4 1/2 to 18. League age is your age as of Jan. 1.

Player evaluations for 10U to 18U are scheduled for Feb. 20 at Edmonds Park weather permitting, or Talents Athletic Center on Feb. 21.

CHS baseball hosts annual Poker Night

The eighth annual Carson Baseball Boosters Club Poker Night is set for Jan. 30 at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall.

Doors open at 5, and poker starts at 6. Cost for poker and dinner is $75. It’s $25 for just dinner. The event will be for men and women 21 and over, and prizes will be awarded to first, second and third-place finishers.

The first 90 minutes there are unlimited re-buys for $20.
