Carson City’s Mile High Jazz Band Association is offering a free jazz workshop for middle school and high school instrumental musicians from Carson City so they can continue their music education.

The workshop — lead by Miguel Jimenez, Tristan Selzler, and Jef Derderian and members of the Mile High Jazz Band and other musicians — runs from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at Carson Middle School. It features sessions on jazz rhythms, scales and chords, improvisation, and ensemble performance.

Open to all instrumental music students who want to learn about jazz, the workshop offers those who are members of the Carson Middle and Carson High school jazz bands the opportunity to perform with the Mile High Jazz Band in concert on Jan. 26.

This event is funded in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council. For information and registration, call David Bugli at 775-883-4154, or email info@jazzcarsoncity.com, or download the registration form at MileHighJazz.com.
