Amelia Earhart landed her trim red monoplane on the local airport at 1:30 o’clock this afternoon, completing the first solo flight between Hawaii and the mainland.
The flight required 18 hours and 17 minutes, about three hours slower than the flight made by Kingsford-Smith.
A crowd of 5,000 greeted the aviatrix on her arrival.
“Well, I am sure glad to be on land again,” she said as she climbed out of the plane.
For more than an hour the aviatrix was lost in the heavy banks of fog off the coast, and she constantly radioed for directions, as she was unable to determine her own whereabouts.
Fair weather was encountered when land was sighted.
The flight was uneventful, the tired pilot said.
