The Nevada Arts Council has awarded nearly $50,000 in grants to 14 Nevada artists selected to receive FY17 Artist Fellowships, executive director Susan Boskoff announced. From Las Vegas, Reno and Minden, their work includes music, poetry, choreography fiction and non-fiction. In addition, artist Stephan Caplan received a $6,955 grant in the Fellowship Project category for new work.

“I am honored that that the Arts Council invests in its artists through the fellowship program. The funding also engages artists with the public during a free activity relevant to a fellow’s discipline, such as readings, exhibitions, performances and master classes. When artists and audiences connect we build richer communities,” Boskoff said.

During public meetings held in June, panelists reviewed 108 applications submitted by artists working in the literary and performing arts. Panels developed a list of recommendations which were considered and approved by the NAC Board June 24. Eight artist fellowships of $5,000 each were awarded: four each in Literary Arts and Performing Arts. Six honorable mention awards of $500 were awarded as well.
