Carson City Senior Center planning events for area seniors

The Carson City Senior Center on Beverly Drive is offering a host of activities this month for area seniors.

An open forum about Question 2 regarding the legalization of recreational marijuana use is planned at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3.

On Wednesday, June 8, the center’s bus is traveling to Reno at 10:30 a.m. with stops planned at Social Security, Meadowood Mall, the VA, and other locations. Bring money for lunch and any purchases. The bus leaves the mall at 2:30 p.m.

Lunch and a tour of the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden is planned on Wednesday, June 15. The bus departs the center at 10 a.m. and leaves the park at 2 p.m. The tour is $5 per person. Bring the suggested donation of $2.25 for the picnic lunch.

A tour of the Greenhouse Project and a container gardening workshop by Cooperative Extension is planned on Friday, June 17. The bus departs the center at 9:15 a.m. and returns at 11:30 a.m. for lunch at the center. Supplies cost $10 per person.

An hourlong walking tour of the University of Nevada, Reno, campus is planned on Monday, June 20. The bus departs the center at 9 a.m. for a tour lead by UNR students. The bus leaves UNR at 1:30 p.m. A picnic lunch will follow, as well as a stop at Wolf Shop.

A trip to the Reno Rodeo is planned at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22. Tickets are $10 per person. Bring money for concessions.

The final trip of June will be to Virginia City on Wednesday, June 29. The bus departs the center at 11 a.m. and leaves the historic town at 3 p.m. Attendees can walk the town, take a tractor tour, try their luck at the casino, and enjoy lunch at one of the many venues. Bring money for lunch, purchases, gambling, and admission fees.

Sign up for trips in the binder found in reception at the senior center. All fees must be paid in advance in the center’s finance office.

On Friday, July 1, the center is hosting a Fourth of July senior dance with The Motifs. Admission is $10 per person at the door. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
