Artown, Reno’s 21st annual month-long celebration of the Arts is gearing up for a wide variety of events during July. As usual, there are a variety of both ticketed and non-ticketed shows on tap.

This year’s poster was done by Michelle Lassaline who recently had a show of hew work in the Classroom Gallery at the Art Center and its multi-species band is a perfect metaphor for the range of things that will be presented during the festival.

The many musical performances will include Keyse Soze on July 3; a special summer evening soiree with Neko Case, K.D. Lang and Laura Viers on July 7; Corb Lund on July 11; Roseanne Cash with john Leventhal on July 14; and Clint Holmes on July 25.

Other offerings will include the talented all female ensemble, Mariachi Flor de Toloache on July 13; the African Children’s Choir on July 6; French pop with Ginkgoa on July 20; the 49th annual Reno Basque Festival on July 16; and the Juan Siddi Flamenco Santa Fe Dance company on July 27.

There will also be several movie screenings throughout the month. From “Big” to “Back to the Future II,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and on July 19, “Pina” an amazingly beautiful documentary on the life and work of the choreographer Pina Bausch.

These are just a few samplings of the more than 500 multi-disciplinary events planned for the month.
