Carson City Sheriff’s Office: Watch for pedestrians

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be focusing on pedestrian safety during the month of June.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind drivers to watch for pedestrians in the crosswalks.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nationally more than 4,700 people were killed in 2013, and Nevada consistently ranked in the 10 worst states for pedestrian fatalities. So far in 2016, in Carson City several people have been killed while in the crosswalk.

Joining Forces is a multi jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the problem areas such as distracted driving, speeding and seat belt use. The purpose of this program is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
