Historian Joe Curtis will talk about the historic United Comstock Merger Mill in American Flat, near Gold Hill, which was demolished by the Bureau of Land Management after the agency determined it presented a danger to the public and was too costly to restore.

Curtis, a member of the Comstock Historic District Commission, will give his presentation on Thursday, June 30 at the Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentations.

The mill was built in 1922 to process local gold and silver ore utilizing cyanide vat leaching in what was then described as the largest concrete mill in the United States, processing about $7.5 million in gold and silver. Since its abandonment in 1924, due to plummeting silver prices, the site was used as a place to hold parties, post graffiti, and conduct paint ball battles.

Tickets can be purchased for the presentation only or dinner as well. Dinner is 4-8 p.m.; the presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 Main St.

For dinner reservations, call the Gold Hill Hotel at 775-847-0111.
