The Douglas County Historical Society’s July 14 lecture will feature Joe Curtis’s PowerPoint presentation, “Virginia City History, the Stuff You Did Not Know That You Should Know to be a Nevadan: Pictorial Look at Virginia City’s Past.”

Curtis, an amateur historian and former fire chief, has been collecting photos of the Comstock and Nevada since he was 10. Many of his photos are rare, dating from the 1860s.

The event is at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. Doors open at 6 p.m. The lecture is at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $3 and free for members.
