The Nevada Humane Society has reported it’s made a big difference in saving animal’s lives in Carson City now that it’s been in the community for one year.
Carson City became the second no-kill region in Nevada when the Nevada Humane Society took over management of the community’s animal control services.
Nevada Humane Society reports all healthy, treatable and rehabilitable animals in the community are now being saved. It reported before it arrived in Carson City, the community’s animal lifesaving rate was 55 percent.
It reported the lifesaving rate for cats was 95.8 percent and 94.3 percent for dogs. There were 1,942 animals sheltered while 1,844 animals were saved.
Nevada Humane Society reported it took in 1,100 dogs, with 1,054 surviving and 804 cats with 758 surviving during the last year.
Animal Control officers responded to more than 2,300 calls and more than 2,000 licenses were also issued.
Construction broke on a new animal shelter in October 2015 with the opening anticipated for late 2016.
