Fernley Republican Women

The Fernley Republican Women (FRW) will hold its next meeting at the Fernley High School Library, 1300 Highway 95A, on March 15.

A light meal will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. The public is always invited to attend. The scheduled speakers are U. S. Representative Joe Heck, candidate for U. S. Senate (via video conference) and Wes Henderson, Executive Director-Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities.

Fallon chapter bus to Nevada game

A rooters bus from Fallon to Reno on March 5 includes a stop at Tahoe Brewery in Fernley and the final home game of the University of Nevada against New Mexico.

The cost is $50 per person, which includes bus ride, beverages on the bus and a game ticket. (If you are a season ticket holder, the price is $30).

To reserve a seat call or text 775-232-9486. The bus leaves from the old Raley’s parking lot at 3:30 p.m. All proceeds go to the Nevada Alumni Association Fallon Chapter Scholarship Fund.

High school equivalency classes

WNC/Fallon will be offering registration for high school equivalency classes. Registration will be on March 17 and 18.

Registration will be from ( a.m.-noon both days in Pinon Hall room 204. Attendance at both sessions is necessary to complete testing and paperwork. Class schedules will be set after completion of registration.

Artists Critique Workshop

The Artists’ Critique Workshop welcomes artists of all levels and media to join a monthly critique workshop held the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Churchill County Museum.

The goal is to provide encouragement to like-minded artists with constructive suggestions and support within a positive environment.

Al-anon meets every Sunday

Sunday Al-anon, a 12-step program, meets every week, 7:30-8:30 p.m. at 1490 Grimes St.

Smash Bros. Melee tournament

The CCHS Smash Bros. Club invites community members to participate in the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament on the large screens at the Fallon Theatres on Feb. 27.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with tournament play starting at 10 a.m. Gamers are encouraged to sign up at challonge.com/FallonLocal2 There is a $5 registration fee and $2 admission fee for spectators.

St. Patrick’s blood drive

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Blood Drive hosted by the Knights of Columbus will be held on Feb. 27.

The Blood Drive starts at 9:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Rose Room on 850 West 4th St. For appointments or information contact Pat at 775-423-2436. Walk-ins are welcome.

K of C corned beef & cabbage

Knights of Columbus Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner is on March 12. Dinner will be held at 850 W. Fourth St. in the Saint Patrick’s Parish Hall starting with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $12 per plate and tickets may be purchased from any Knight or at the door. Raffles and door prizes during the dinner.

Elks St. Patrick’s Day dinner

On March 17, the Fallon Elks Lodge invite you to be a guest at our annual St. Patrick’s Day Feast.

Grad Nite run

The 2016 Grad Nite Committee presents a St. Patrick’s Day Fun Run/Walk “Color Ye Irish 5K” on March 19 at Venturacci Park at 10 a.m.

You are welcome to run, walk, skip, dance or shuffle and wear your new Irish Colors with pride, During the race traditional colors of the Irish Flag will decorate you. Donkey basketball

Grad Nite 2016 is sponsoring Donkey Basketball on March 5 at 6 p.m. and the Gym at Venturacci Park.

The teams will represent teachers, coaches, first responders and outstanding citizens.

USDA food distribution

USDA Food Distribution will be at the American Legion Post 16, 90 N Ada St, from 9 a.m.- 1p.m. on March 23.

AAUW re-entry scholarship

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Fallon Branch, is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a Churchill County resident who wishes to resume college studies. Financial need, career goals, and academic ability are among the criteria for the scholarship. Applications are available at the main office at Western Nevada College, Fallon Campus, or online through the financial assistance office at www.wnc.edu. Applications must be typed and submitted to Angela Viera at WNC by April 15.

AAUW high school scholarship

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Fallon Branch, is offering a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating high school student.

Applications can be found at the Churchill County High School website under Counseling and Guidance. Completed applications must be typed, signed by a parent or guardian, and returned to Renie Knittle, high school counselor, by the deadline, April 15.

Churchill County Democrat

The Churchill County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting on March 10 at the Churchill County Administration Complex on the corner of North Taylor and A streets in room 136.

They will be planning for the upcoming County Convention and the annual Sawyer-Bryan Dinner. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.

Lyon County Republicans

The Lyon County Republican Central Committee (LCRCC) will hold its next meeting on March 5 at the County Office Building, 27 S. Main Street,

Yerington. Our meeting starts at 10 a.m. We welcome the public to attend and learn more about grassroots politics and meet with our Republican officials,

both county and state.

The Lyon County Republican Convention is being held March 12 at the Yerington Intermediate School Gym, 114 Pearl Street, Yerington. Doors open at

9 a.m. All persons elected as delegates and alternates should attend; guests are also welcome. The cost is $15 which includes a box lunch. Lyon County Republican

Central Committee bylaws will be ratified, the platform finalized and members of the central committee for the next two years will be elected. We will also be electing

delegates and alternates to the Nevada State Convention. The county convention keynote speaker will be Assemblywoman Robin Titus.

St. Patrick’s bingo

St. Patrick Catholic Church invites the public to play bingo in its parish hall on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office.

Contact the Churchill County DA, Child Support Division at 775-423-8423. The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support.

Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop is located inside the front lobby of Banner Churchill Community Hospital, 801 E. Williams Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Abused and neglected children who are removed from their families often need to live outside of their communities, away from everything familiar.

In Nevada’s rural communities, many children, including teens and sibling groups, are in need of a safe and nurturing home.

Foster parents provide a temporary home so these children can heal and feel supported.

Foster parents can be single or married, male or female. They can be working, or a stay-at-home parent. They can also be retired with grown children.

JOIN has received federal funds that will allow us to pay for your instruction, class materials, and certification fees.
