New Driver Education courses for teens age 15 and older will be offered at Western Nevada College. Each session includes four days of instruction from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $100.
Classes in Carson City are on June 6-9 and 20-23; July 5-8 and 18-21; Aug. 1-4; and Saturdays from Sept. 17 to Oct. 8; and Saturdays, Oct. 22, Nov. 5, Nov. 19 and Dec. 3.
Classes in Douglas County are on June 13-19; July 11-14 and Saturdays from Sept. 24 through Oct. 15.
Classes in Fernley are June 13-16 and Saturdays, Oct. 15 and 22 and Nov. 5 and 19.
Young drivers will learn safe driving techniques through lectures, class discussion, guest speakers, and films that cover Nevada driving regulations, basic vehicle control, and driving maneuvers in various situations and environments. Nevada state law requires new drivers under age 18 to take a 30-hour New Driver Education course if one is offered within 30 miles of their home.
The course also covers how to handle distractions and peer pressure, and how to prevent falling asleep at the wheel or driving under the influence. Speakers include public safety officials and insurance representatives. Instruction includes tips on how to drive safely around large trucks and motorcycles, and avoid unexpected objects in the road, as well as maneuvering safely through roundabouts, and rules for driving in bad weather.
New this year, WNC is offering an Online 30-Hour New Driver Education Class for $90. Sign up at any time, students have 60 days to complete the course.
