Joan “Jodi” Souther of Carson City died on March 15th at the age of 82. Jodi was born May 4th, 1933 in San Diego, California to Simon Jacob Buquet and Margaret Ann Featherstone. At an early age, she moved to Yerington where she grew up and graduated from high school. She moved to Arizona when she married Harold Souther, Jr. and lived there until 1980 when she returned to her true home in Nevada. Jodi was a nurse for 30+ years in both Arizona and Nevada, but was always a cowgirl at heart. Jodi’s biggest passion was horses, and she enjoyed entering her pony and cart in the Nevada Day and 4th of July parades. Jodi designed and crafted her and her grandchildren’s costumes for the parades, which earned her multiple awards. She won many awards with her horses Grey Boy and Moon over the years as well. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labors, as well as baking and cooking for those she loved. Jodi also loved camping and hunting well into her 60’s. Jodi was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, friend, and nurse. She had strong values from the old way of life, and if she was a friend to you, she was a friend for life. Even though we know she’s in God’s hands she will truly be missed. She is survived by her six children: Babette “Tania” Coon of Carson City, NV; Mari Rosaschi of Tucson, AZ; John Souther of Safford, AZ; Randy Taylor of Gran Canary Islands; Suzanna Taylor of Washoe Valley, NV; and Halana Salazar of Carson City, NV. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Greg Fields of Ocean City, MD; Cameron Webster of Pittsburgh, PA; Paul Rosaschi of Tucson, AZ; Meagan Figueroa of Tucson, AZ; Aaron Taylor of Reno, NV; Jessica Taylor of New York City; Shea Salazar of Cave Creek, AZ; and Aubrey Perkins of Hinesville, GA. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 23rd at Thunder Canyon Golf Resort, Washoe Valley, NV from 11-2. In lieu of flowers please donate in Jodi’s name to either the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org/donate or the Nevada Humane Society of Carson City, 3770 Butti Way, Carson City, NV 89701.
