The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be focusing on “Click it or Ticket” seat belt safety during the month of May for their Joining Forces event.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved nearly 12,000 lives nationwide in 2011.

“Please buckle up. It only takes two seconds to put your seat belt on to help save your life should you be involved in a motor vehicle crash,” said Sgt. Scott McDaniel. “So, please buckle up every time!”

Joining Forces is a law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement for issues such as DUI, distracted driving, speeding and pedestrian safety. The goal of the campaign is to save lives by increasing awareness about the dangers of poor choices while driving. Grant funding is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety to use the money for additional deputies who are out looking for distracted drivers.
