Al Kramer, Republican candidate for Assembly District 40 in Carson City, says a flier accusing him of not paying his property taxes is a lie.

The flier was paid for by the Nevada Jobs Coalition PAC in Las Vegas. It says Kramer “has been fined for failure to pay his property taxes not just once but twice in the last year alone.”

“How can Nevada taxpayers trust Kramer with our tax dollars when he doesn’t even pay his own taxes?” the flier asks. It urged voters not to support Kramer.

Kramer said that statement is a lie. He said he was late paying his property tax bill twice, but paid the penalty fine and paid the taxes.

The reason, he said, is simple: when people are paying a mortgage, the lender pays the annual taxes on the property. After he and his wife paid off their house mortgage, he said he was late because they just didn’t remember the payments were now up to them.

He said he’ll have a lawyer write the PAC a letter but “they’ll just delay until after the election.”

Kramer was not named on the 2015-2016 delinquent tax list as listed by the Office of Carson City Treasurer in the May 5 Nevada Appeal.

Kramer is one of four in the Republican primary race for AD40.
