Carson City Sheriff’s Office issues more than 100 Click It or Ticket citations

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office issued more than 100 citations and one arrest following the Joining Force’s Click It or Ticket event throughout May.

The event focused on seat belt safety in order to promote safe driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved nearly 12,000 lives nationwide in 2011.

“The Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds you to please buckle up,” said Sgt. Scott McDaniel. “It only takes two seconds to put your seat belt on to help save your life should you be involved in a motor vehicle crash. So, please buckle up every time!”

McDaniel said they were please they only had to give out 2 citations for seat belt violations, the rest were for 98 speeding citations and 7 citations for cell phone use and other violations. One arrest was made for failure to appear.

Grant Funding for this event is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety. These monies are used to pay for additional deputies who participate in these events.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of DUI, distracted driving, seat belt use, speeding and pedestrian safety. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
