Gov. Brian Sandoval on Thursday appointed Washoe District Judge Lidia Stiglich to fill the vacancy on the Nevada Supreme Court.

She will replace Nancy Saitta who retired from the court in August.

He said she’s highly regarded by her colleagues and the advocates who appear before her and has earned the highest retention rating among her peers in the Second Judicial District.

Sandoval said she founded the Youth Offender Drug Court which has helped move young adults out of desperate circumstances and has committed herself to improving the quality of judicial services in the state.

Since she’s just two years into her first full term, her appointment creates a new vacancy Sandoval also will have to fill.

Stiglich was one of three finalists for the job recommended by the commission on Judicial Selection.
