An erroneous message on a group’s Facebook site regarding a lock down of both the middle and high schools are false, reports both the school district and law enforcement.
Dr. Sandra Sheldon, superintendent of Churchill County School District, said Fallon Police and then the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office investigated a threat that was made Thursday night, but Fallon Police Chief Kevin Gehman said the investigation revealed the threat was not viable. He also said no lock down of any school has occurred.
Sheldon said police officers and deputies had a presence on the middle school and high school campuses Friday morning.
Gehman said law enforcement wanted to show the campuses were safe for students and staff to attend.
The following is a message from Dr. Sheldon:
Churchill County High School takes student safety very seriously. Last night there was a report of a possible threat against the high school. The Fallon Police department and Churchill County Sheriff’s department investigated and determined that the threat was not viable. In following our safety and security plan, officers from the Fallon Police and Sheriff’s department were on campus this morning as students arrived to reassure them that there was no threat. We want to thank the local Fallon Police and Churchill County Sheriff for taking precautionary measures on our campus. We are not currently, nor have we been in lock down. Students are in class. Everything is running normally on our campus. If there were any actual emergency parents would be notified directly from the district using the messenger calling system.
