Linda Hoxsie: Vitriolic language unnecessary this election

Hadn’t planned on weighing into the cesspool of recent political discourse. But I take umbrage at Oct. 23 comments.

One writer’s letter was particularly hard to read.

Ms. Collier, you don’t know me. I am a Democrat. I am also a Christian who believes in God, love, forgiveness, respect and other qualities you apparently lack. I love my family and care for a disabled difficult ex-husband (there’s a reason we are exes.) Most people would say I’m a good person who tries to do the right thing. I am not alone among Democrats.

You inferred I represent “death, evil, slavery, communism, anarchy” among others. You ascribe to Republicans only the purest of intentions. Must you be so offensive?

How I vote is my business, taken seriously and approached thoughtfully and responsibly. You judge Democrats aren’t Christian and you actually advocate taking away our right to vote. You couldn’t be more wrong. Most letters this date were so full of venom they made me sad, but yours made me sick. What makes you and others like you so filled with hatred?

Is this what we have become? The greatest nation in the world has devolved into such contempt for one another. We all suffer from the nastiness dominating this election. But please temper your language when hurling blanket accusations at one particular group of folks you obviously know nothing about. Choice of party has little to do with who we are as people.
