Carson City early voters still turning out in droves

Carson City early voters are still turning out in droves.

As of the first three days of early voting through Tuesday, 4,579 Carson City voters have cast their ballots during the early voting period.

Bucking the trend, the number of early voters increased substantially on the second day of early voting over the first day. Early voting began to decline slightly on the third day as would be expected.

There were 1,267 early voters on the first day of early voting Saturday, which was actually lower than on the first day of early voting during the 2012 presidential election. But the number of early voters jumped substantially to 1,744 on Monday the second day before coming back down to 1,568 on Tuesday.

As would be expected, Republicans gained more of an advantage of early voters on Monday and Tuesday as opposed to a surprisingly narrow gap on Saturday. There were only 30 less Democrats than Republicans who voted on Saturday (514-544), but the gap widened in favor of Republicans to 810-632 on Monday and 748-527 on Tuesday.

So far through Tuesday there have been 1,344 absentee ballots counted for a total of 5,923 ballots in Carson City cast so far. Of the absentee ballots cast, 657 have been cast by Republicans and 416 have been cast by Democrats.

Early voting continues through Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the County Courthouse, 885 East Musser Street. Early voting can also be done from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the County Courthouse. The County Courthouse is closed on Sundays.
