Community shred day Sept. 10 in Carson City to benefit Special Olympics Nevada

The community can support Special Olympics Nevada while protecting themselves from identity theft at a shred and recycle event on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The event from 9 a.m. to noon will be at the parking lot on the south side of Bullis and Company, 206 S. Division St.

A suggested donation of $5 per standard file storage box or electronic device. A maximum of 50 boxes of shredding is allowed per person. Old business records, tax papers, credit card offers and recipes, Social Security and bank statements and other documents can be shredded. Electronics, including computers, LCD monitors, fax machines, copiers, cell phones, tablets and cameras, also can be recycled.

In addition, a barbecue offering hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs, chips and drinks will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.

Each $5 contribution toward shredding, recycling or food gets a raffle ticket for prizes; winners do not need to be present.
