Washoe City: Senator Nye addressed the citizens at Washoe City arriving at Ophir. He was met by a large procession of citizens (nearly a mile in length) bearing torches, and he was escorted into Washoe City. Our Washoe neighbors are determined to testify their approval of the “Old Chief.”

All sorts: An old woman in Savanna predicts the end of the world Sept. 29. Persons indebted to this office will please settle up.

Rich gold bearing gravel is reported on the west side of Mount Davidson. The papers up there have quit making fun of Norra, the divining rod expert.

Park theater: The patrons of the little Park Theater were highly delighted by the program, a film showing pictures of the ape that escaped from the zoological gardens. Albert Frye made his initial appearance. He possesses a magnificent bass voice and knows how to use his vocalization, articulation and expression.

4-H: Carson City youths are expected to take part in 4-H exercises. Mistress of ceremonies will be Georgia Meyers, county 4-H president. Members participating include “Sisters of the Kitchen” — Diane Dilts, Helene Dilts, Marilyn Johnson, Joan Fletcher, Sybil Weathers, Ruth Alice Dixon, Patricia Ann Nori, Eleanor McNeil, Mary McCullock and Ella Mae Boice.

Michael M. Guariglia, State Director of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, has announced that a computer registering the work of an electrode placed in a patient’s brain may help thousands of people who suffer from epilepsy too severe to be controlled by medication.

Fourth Ward School lectures: The summer lecture series at the Fourth Ward School in Virginia City will continue with a slide show and discussion called: “Freeze-Frame: A Look Back at the Early Photographers on the Comstock,” led by Bernadette Francke, director of the Comstock Historic District Commission.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
