Nevada Humane Society has a dire need: donations of dry food for adult cats.

On a daily basis, the shelter goes through about 120 pounds of dry cat food and 80 cans of wet cat food. In addition, over a thousand pounds of cat food is used for the Pet Food Assistance program, a program that helps seniors who live on a low-income budget and other pet owners challenged with economic hardship as well as outdoor cats who rely on human caregivers to supply their food.

“In order for us to continue helping needy families, community cats and the cats here at the shelter, we need your help. Dry cat food is a critical and consistent need and at this time we are unable to meet the demands for cat food,” said Kimberly Wade, Communications Director for Nevada Humane Society.

Wade said any brand of food is fine, but fish flavors aren’t preferred.

Donations can be delivered from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily at either the Reno or Carson City locations. The Carson City site is at 549 Airport Road. In Reno, visit 2825 Longley Lane.

Additionally, donations can be sent online via a wish list at smile.amazon.com.

More than 15,000 animals are expected to come through the shelter this year. For information, go to www.nevadahumanesociety.org, or call 775-856-2000.
