Hot cider and other holiday goodies will on hand at a free open house on Sunday at the Wungnema building in Mills Park.
The event, sponsored by the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. It offers the chance to learn about this historic building, Indian history and culture, and the foundation.
The building is accessible by the park entrance on Saliman Road, opposite Carson High School.
The historic 1,000-square-foot house was built by the Wungnema family in 1948. It’s one of several buildings built by the Wungnemas around Lake Tahoe from 1925 to 1955 and elements reflect the family’s Hopi heritage.
The nonprofit foundation maintains the historic house under a lease from the city. The foundation supports the ongoing enhancement of Carson City’s parks and recreational facilities, such as the city’s various dog parks, tennis courts and the developing disc golf course. New members are welcome to help with fundraising, newsletter, publicity, special events, recruitment, and park clean up.
