Despite having an open enrollment period half as long as last year, the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange enrolled a record 90,962 Nevadans this year.
Enrollment this year opened Nov. 1 and ended Dec. 15. That’s six weeks shorter than last year.
“Given the shortened enrollment period and the federal uncertainty surrounding the healthcare marketplace, I am pleased the 2018 enrollment numbers have exceeded enrollment from 2017,” said Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Heather Korbulic, director of the exchange, said the exchange “saw firsthand how much our citizens want and need health coverage.”
She said the enrollees include 27,936 new customers.
Even though open enrollment is now closed, Korbulic said it’s important to remember “qualifying life events” can allow people to enroll or make changes in their health coverage at any time during the year. Those include the loss of employer-provided coverage, changes in income or changes in family size.
