Series to spotlight six artists during legislative session

Six artists whose work spans the breadth of contemporary and folk art from across the Silver State will be featured at the Legislative building during the biennial session.

Photography, paintings, mixed media pieces and other art will be showcased as part of Nevada Arts Council’s Legislative eXhibition Series.

The series will open with illustrations by Lisa Kurt of Reno Feb. 6-24, followed by photography by Christopher Tsouras of Henderson Feb. 27-March 17.

Next is mixed media by Jen Graham of Reno March 20-April 7, then paintings by Kathryn Grider of Spring Creek April 10-28 and mixed media by Myranda Bair of Las Vegas May 1-19.

Paintings by Eyob Mergia of Las Vegas will round out the series May 22-June 9.

The artists were recommended by a committee made up of Alisha Funkhouser, art director of Holland Project in Reno; Darren Johnson, gallery director of Clark County Library Galleries in Las Vegas; and Lauren M. Roovaart, gallery director of Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko.

The series has decorated the Legislative building since 1985. It assembles work by artists across the state to showcase the diversity of Nevada’s art scene.

Managed by the Artist Services Program of the Nevada Arts Council, the LXS Gallery is on the first floor in the Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St., across the hall from the Caucus Deli. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, has been operating since 1967 as the state agency charged with ensuring state and national funds support cultural activity and encourage participation in the arts throughout Nevada. Funding comes from the state of Nevada, the National Endowment for the Arts, and other public and private sources.
