One man died as a result of a crash involving two vehicles on US 395/Jakes Hill south of Gardnerville on Wednesday.

Donald David Chisholm, 69, of Reno, died as a result of the crash.

At about 4:20 p.m. the Nevada Highway Patrol was dispatched to US 395/Jakes Hill. The preliminary investigation indicated a blue 2009 Ford Fusion driven by Chisholm was traveling northbound on US 395 just north of China Springs. The Fusion went off the roadway to the right and Chisholm over corrected to the left. The over correction caused him to lose control of the vehicle and cross the center line into the path of a southbound 2003 black Ford Expedition. The driver of the Expedition was unable to avoid the Fusion, striking the right side with the front of the Expedition.

There were two occupants in the Fusion, (Chisholm and an adult female passenger in the right front). Chisholm was transported via CareFlight to a Reno hospital where he died a short time later. The passenger was also transported via CareFlight to a Reno hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Expedition was transported to a Reno hospital via ambulance.

All three occupants from both cars weren’t wearing seatbelts. Impairment is unknown at this time. The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating.
