Annual tour shines light on regional artists

An inside look at the diversity of the region’s art scene is being offered thanks to the Tahoe Art League.

The art group is bringing back its Artist Studio Tour for two weekends, July 28-30 and Aug. 4-6.

The self-guided tour will highlight a diverse set of artistic mediums from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is free.

Attendees can expect to visit 44 local artists at 22 locations in South Lake Tahoe to talk with artists and see their work.

A diverse range of art, including sculptures, oils, watercolor, dye on silks, drawings, photography, jewelry and woodworking, will be showcased, and some art will be for sale.

Participating artists include dye-on-silk painter Nina Major, oil painter Bonita Paulis, sculptor David Foster, and abstract painter Scott Forrest.

Several artists will be holding demonstrations of their crafts. Artist-donated prizes will be up for grabs to patrons who visit 10 or more studios.

Tour maps will be given to attendees so they can make their way from one location to another. Maps can be downloaded at www.talart.org or picked up in person at TAL Art Center, 3062 U.S. Highway 50, South Lake Tahoe. The tour map can be accessed on smart phones by visiting the website.

The Tahoe Art League was formed as a nonprofit in 1964. Its mission is to promote local fine arts and art education. It provides free monthly art demonstration and workshops in addition to operating a gallery. It gives art scholarships to aspiring artists and holds other activities for all ages, needs and talents.
