Churchill County Library Director Carol Lloyd welcomed about 100 people to the Maine Street library’s 50th birthday party on Saturday.
“It was really a fabulous event,” Lloyd said. “It was very well-attended and it’s gratifying for me as the director to work in a town and in a facility that has a 112-year history. It’s true. It’s really true. It’s just such a cool place — the town, the support.”
Bob Erikson, mayor pro tempore, spoke about the library’s history and the importance of having the library in the community. County Commissioner Carl Erquiaga shared personal anecdotes about the library and commended Lloyd and her staff on a great job.
Justin Impossible of Impossible’s Magic Shop in Reno, provided entertainment for both children and adults. Also Cheryl Scherschel provided the festivity’s cake with large edible balloons. The Churchill Library Association, the library’s fundraising arm, provided decorations and other refreshments.
Children took home a free book and a magic-scratch bookmark.
