Nevada Republicans say creating a new state office to operate a school voucher program will fix a technical flaw delaying its implementation.
The program would give parents state dollars to spend on private schools.
Legal challenges have stalled it since Republicans created the program in 2015.
The Nevada Supreme Court ruled the concept is constitutional, but that using funds dedicated to public education is not.
Republicans want to revise that with Senate Bill 359.
The measure would move the Educational Savings Account to a separate office in the state education department and give it $60 million in state revenue over the next two years.
That’s the amount Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval proposed.
Democrats control the Legislature and uniformly oppose the program.
