Min. wage, OT rates won’t increase this year

The Nevada Labor commissioner this week served notice the state’s minimum wage will remain unchanged this year.

The minimum wage for employers who offer qualified health plans to workers will stay at $7.25 an hour and the wage for workers who aren’t offered health benefits will remain $8.25 an hour.

The language voters put into the Nevada Constitution in 2006 requires the minimum wage be recalculated every year based on increases in the federal minimum wage or the rise in the cost of living, which ever is larger.

The overtime payment requirements in Nevada will also remain unchanged. Workers who are offered health benefits and earn less than $10.87 an hour and those not offered benefits who earn under $12.37 an hour must be paid overtime for working more than eight hours in a 24 hour period.

Nevada is one of the few states with that daily overtime requirement in addition to the general requirement overtime be paid for more than 40 hours of work in a week.
