State high school rodeo begins in Winnemucca

The Nevada State High School Rodeo Association state finals begin Thursday in Winnemucca.

First go for the junior-high school contestants is Thursday morning with the second go that night and short go on Friday.

First go for the high-school cowboys and cowgirls is Saturday, second on Sunday and the short go is on Monday. There are morning and night performances on Saturday and Sunday.

At the Wells Junior / Senior High School rodeo on Saturday in the Junior High Division, Logan Dixon placed first in the bareback steer riding and second in the chute dogging. Tayler Felton captured first in breakaway, Jayden Jensen took sixth and Ali Norcutt finished ninth.

In the ribbon roping Jensen and Daunte Ceresola (Fernley) placed first and second in the team roping. In the pole bending, Felton came in fifth and Macy Henke ended up seventh. In the goat tying, Norcutt took second, Henke placed third, Bethie Ikonen came in sixth and Reese Waggoner finished seventh. In the barrels Henke got first, and Jensen placed seventh,

On Sunday in the chute dogging Dixon took third and placed first in the bull riding. Norcutt came in fifth in the breakaway, and Jensen placed eighth. Felton and Broc Feyder (Elko) took the lead, while Jensen and Ceresola placed second, and Norcutt and Draw Roper took third.

Jensen and Ceresola won the team roping, Henke placed third in the poles, Felton took fourth and Waggoner took 10th. Ali Norcutt placed first in goats, Tylie Norcutt placed second, Ikonen placed third, and Waggoner finished ninth. In the barrels felton got fifth.

In the high school division, Grace Felton placed fourth in barrels, Coy Glover took fifth in Steer Wrestling, Mackay Spyrow took second in calf roping, and Matt Goings finished third. In the team roping, Felton and Alexus Carter (independent) took fifth, and Jordan Taylor (Moapa) and Spyrow got seventh.

In the breakaway Leighton Beyer was seventh, and Felton finished ninth. Chloe Lambert placed first in the goat tying, Beyer took seventh, and Leta Ikonen finished ninth. Felton got first in the poles, Caleb Hendrix placed sixth in the boys cutting, Jessica Gomes came in eighth in the girls cutting and ninth in the reined cow horse.

On Sunday Felton placed eighth in the barrels, Jake Cerini got second in the calf roping while goings took seventh, Hendrix and Garrett Weltzin placed fourth in the team roping, Goings and Peyton Feyder (Elko) took sixth, In Breakaway, Lambert took first in breakaway, and Felton came in fifth.

In the goats Beyer took third, Felton placed eighth and Ikonen took ninth. Hendrix placed second in the Boys cutting, Gomes finished tenth in the girls cutting, and eighth in the reined cow horse.
