One of the major cultural events to be held each summer is the annual Father’s Day Pow Wow at the Stewart Indian School off Snyder Avenue on Father’s Day Weekend, June 16-18.

The free event features more than 200 dancers dressed in their native tribal costumes to showcase American Indian heritage, history and pride. Arts and craft vendors and food vendors assembling the famous Indian tacos will be on hand.

Funds raised will be set aside to restore the historic school closed in 1980 after being in operation since December of 1890. A self-guided cell phone tour narrated by those who attended the school is a perfect way to understand how the school came to be and the part it played in Carson City’s history.

The Chamber named this the Best Annual Event for 2015 and encourages all to attend one of the events to learn more of Carson City’s uniquely Nevada history.
