The Churchill County School District Board of Trustees recognized community members and businesses for their assistance helping the high school’s Future Farmers of America at the school board meeting on Wednesday.
Joe Frey of Frey Ranch Estate Distillery donated equipment and fuel, and Dan Fagundes helped burn unwanted branches and weeds.
“This was a great community opportunity,” Frey said. “A lot of community members jumped in and helped when we had a few road blocks.”
Two local businesses also assisted; Farm Supply provided a discount on seed and John Hancock, LLC, provided a discount for removal of branches and weeds.
Trustees Vice President Kathryn Whitaker said Churchill County High School’s FFA needed the support from the community in order for students to learn.
“The culture is a foundational and economic force in our community,” she said. “We’ve been talking about it for months and what the county can do to provide.”
District Legal Counsel Sharla Hales also was honored with an Alumni Achievement Award from Brigham Young University during its homecoming week.
“She’s contributed to friends, families, and many communities,” said Trustees President Clay Hendrix. “She’s a great resources to our school board and camaraderie.”
