Prep Roundup: Carson High baseball tops Hug

RENO — Carson High’s baseball team made quick work of Hug on Tuesday afternoon, rolling to a 19-1 three-inning victory.

The Senators, 2-3 in Northern 4A play, scored two in the first, one in the second and 16 in the third. Hug scored its only run in the third. The game was called because of the 15-run rule.

Eleven players hit safely, as the Senators pounded out 13 hits against three Hug pitchers. Landon Truesdale and Kobe Morgan led the offense with two hits apiece, and Joe Tonino, Kahle Good, Avery Powell, Jared Barnard, Quinn Overland. Ben Nelson, Colby Zemp, Josh Buchan and Kenny Aydelott added one hit apiece.

Truesdale singled home the game’s first run, and a bases-loaded walk scored the second. Abel Carter made it 3-0 in the second with a sacrifice fly.

Barnard, Overland, Buchan and Morgan all drove in two runs in the big third inning.

Hayden Hudson pitched the first inning, allowing one hit and striking out the side. Josh Ingram pitched the last two innings, striking out five and allowing three hits.

Carson is set to play a make-up doubleheader at Reed High on Wednesday starting at 3:45 p.m.

Reed 12, Douglas 2

Six players had multiple hits to help Reed collect a 12-2 Northern 4A win at Douglas on Tuesday afternoon in Minden.

Reed (3-2 conference, 9-5 overall) scored four runs in the fourth inning then added five more runs in the fifth to break up a 1-all struggle at Tiger Field. That was more than ample support for senior pitchers Will Bannister and Tyler Imperato, who combined to limit the Tigers to one hit in a game that was stopped after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Douglas (3-3, 5-6) got its only hit in the third inning, an RBI double down the left field line by Jayden Foster that tied the score 1-all.

Brenden Coffindaffer doubled to lead off Reed’s fourth-inning rally. Colton Domingues reached on a bunt single, then Scott Cameron tripled into the left-center field gap to drive one run home and Kameron Soubiea doubled another run home to put the Raiders out front to stay.

Coffindaffer, a sophomore, hit 3-for-3 to lead Reed’s 14-hit attack. Brandon Biggs, Tanner Clabaugh, Domingues and Soubiea added two hits and two RBI each.

Bannister pitched four innings to earn credit for the win.

SOFTBALL

Dayton girls win

DAYTON — The Dust Devils grabbed an early 8-1 lead and coasted to a 17-10 win over South Tahoe in a Northern 3A game.

South Tahoe out-hit Dayton 11-6, but Dayton took advantage of 15 walks and ran the bases alertly to win easily.

Alaura Greenwalt and Shay Thompson collected two hits apiece, and Tamia Powell and Julie Rogacs added a hit each.

Thompson, Greenwalt and Rogacs drove in three runs apiece. Powell scored five times after being walked four times.
