Blood Donation Day declared in Nevada; blood drives slated

In response to the blood shortage crisis, governors across the United States, including Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, have united to declare Blood Donation Day.

Gov. Sandoval proclaimed Sept. 5 Nevada Blood Donation Day. National Blood Donation Week is Sept. 3-10.

Dozens of blood drives are planned in Northern Nevada.

United Blood Services, 256 E. Winnie Lane, is hosting the following five events: 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 5; 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 7; 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 8; 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 9 and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 10.

Blood donations will also be taken from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8 during the Special Olympics Benefit Day event at Max Casino, 900 S. Carson St.

Calvary Chapel of Carson City, 1635 Clearview Drive, will be hosting a drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 9.

To give blood in Minden, stop by Aspire Academy High School, 1680 Bently Parkway, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6.

The Fernley Farmers Market is also hosting a drive from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 5. It’s located at 605 Silverlace Blvd. in Fernley.
