Prep Roundup: Carson High softball beats Wooster

Carson High’s softball team scored eight runs in the first four innings en route to a 10-2 win over Wooster in a Northern 4A softball game Tuesday afternoon.

The teams collide on Thursday in Reno, and then Carson will host Douglas in a Saturday doubleheader.

Carson took a 5-1 lead after two innings.

In the first, Kailee Luschar walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Kedre Luschar, who later scored on a wild pitch. Cam Quilling doubled home the third run of the inning.

Taylor Murphy doubled to lead off the second and was replaced on the basepaths by Faith Bigelow, who scored on a steal. Lauren Hawkins walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and stole third. Kedre Luschar singled home Hawkins and moved to second on the throw home. Kedre Luschar scored on a passed ball.

The Senators made it 6-1 in the third when Murphy drove home Alex Salciedo, who doubled to lead off the inning. Carson extended the lead to 8-2 in the fourth highlighted by Jailene Salciedo’s solo homer.

Kedre Luschar went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs, Kailee Luschar went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Murphy went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Murphy pitched the distance, scattering five hits and striking out three, as Jailene Salciedo got a game off.

Douglas 11, Galena 2

RENO — Amanda Hoffman hit 3-for-3 and Deztiny Vaughan pitched a complete game four-hitter to help the Douglas Tigers to an 11-2 win against Galena on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers scored three runs after two outs in the first inning then added four more runs to go up 7-0 in the fourth inning.

Mackenzie Brixey drove in three runs and Jasmine McNinch had three RBI for Douglas (12-5 conference, 19-8-1 overall).

Dayton rolls past South Tahoe, 12-4

DAYTON — Caleigh Onstott pitched and hit Dayton past South Tahoe, 12-4, in a Northern 3A softball game Tuesday afternoon.

Onstott went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs, and she allowed two earned runs and five hots in the circle.

She got plenty of offensive support, as Dayton rolled to an 11-0 lead after three innings. Six of those runs came in the first innings.

Tamia Powell doubled twice and drove in two runs, Julie Rogacs doubled twice and drove in a run, and Amanda Woitas and Marissa Hein added a hit each.

Dayton visits Fallon for a three-game series starting Friday.

BASEBALL

Carson hosts Douglas in crucial 4A game

Carson hosts Douglas today on Senior Night at Ron McNutt Field. First pitch is 7 p.m.

The Senators lead Douglas by one game with two games left in the regular season. If Carson wins tonight, it will earn the eighth playoff spot and a first-round match-up with Reno.

If Douglas wins tonight, the teams will be tied with the regular-season finale set for Thursday at 3:45 p.m. at Tiger Field.

Senior Ben Nelson is expected to start on the mound for CHS.

Vikings edge Dayton, 7-5

DAYTON — South Tahoe took a 5-0 lead after three innings, and held on for a 7-5 win over the Dust Devils in a Northern 3A game Tuesday afternoon.

Dayton plays Fallon on Friday and Saturday to conclude the regular season.

Dayton cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Vikings scored twice in the top of the sixth. Justin Schmidt homered in the seventh for Dayton.

Schmidt went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Tyler Stolfich hit a double.

Isaac Von Schoff gave up five runs, three earned, in three innings. Stolfich worked the final four innings.

Sierra Lutheran stops Smith Valley

MINDEN — Michael Davis went 3-for-4 and Zane Warkentin went 2-for-3 and scored three times to lead the Falcons past Smith Valley, 8-4, Tuesday afternoon.

Seth Houghton went five innings and struck out six. He threw just 68 pitches.

The Falcons scored three in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2.

Carson golfers 4th at Genoa Lakes

GENOA — Carson High’s golf team posted a fourth-place finish at the weekly Sierra League Invitational at Genoa Lakes-Ranch course on Monday.

Galena shot 297 to win the event, 10 shots ahead of Bishop Manogue. Douglas was third at 364, Carson was at 372 and Damonte Ranch was fifth at 373.

Xander Smokey shot 82 followed by Daniel Escalante at 96, Ethan Lepire and Cole Warkentin at 97 and Ty Evans at 98. Smokey has an outside chance of making regionals as an individual if Carson doesn’t move on as a team.

Manogue’s Ollie Osborne shot a 71 to tie Connor Motherway for medalist honors.

Carson has 13 team points through four tournaments, Damonte is at 12 and Douglas at 11.
