Traffic began flowing over the new $900,000 South Maine Street Bridge last week.
The Nevada Department of Transportation has reopened South Maine Street following replacement of a bridge over the L-Line Canal.
A southern portion of bridge just north of Wildes Road (State Route 118) was closed since early December as NDOT replaced the Maine Street bridge.
The bridge was originally constructed in 1928 as a concrete slab bridge on timber foundations and has been replaced by a 52-foot-long reinforced concrete structure. Rock was also placed in the canal to help reduce future erosion. Nearly 2,300 vehicles travel the stretch of Maine Street daily.
The project by A&K Earth Movers, Inc., is part of NDOT’s proactive bridge inspection and renovation process that has helped lead Nevada bridges to be named the nation’s best for the past five years. The cost to replace the bridge was about $900,000.
In 2016, NDOT replaced the Harrigan Road bridge also located over the L-Line Canal.
