The Carson Blue Jays summer baseball team has gotten off to a 0-2-1 start to the season. Carson dropped its first two games of the season this past week, losing to the Rebels 13-11 on Tuesday at Ron McNutt Field and the Reno A’s 8-6 on Monday.
On Thursday, the Blue Jays and Outlaws played to a 11-11 tie in a game that was called after nine innings. Against the Outlaws, Carson took a 6-1 lead but the Outlaws scored six runs in the fourth inning to come back to take a 7-6 lead.
Carson responded with five runs in the fifth to take an 11-7 lead, but the Outlaws scored two runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to tie the score 11-11.
Kobe Morgan doubled and Casey Martenseon and Tyler Stagliano also singled to help spark Carson’s five-run fifth inning rally. In the first, Garritt Benivedez hit an RBI single and Brian Guthrie belted a three-run home run to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead.
Carson had 13 hits. Benivedez and Guthrie each had three hits and Martensen, Morgan and Stagliano all added two hits for the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays actually overcame a 10-run deficit against the Rebels before falling. The Blue Jays scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 11-11 but the Rebels scored two runs in the seventh.
Casey Martensen, Jose Fausto and Justin Nussbaumer all had doubles and Brian Guthrie also had a hit to help spark the 10-run rally in the fifth. Nussbaumer’s two-run double tied the game 11-11.
Carson had 10 hits. Guthrie, Dillon Damico, Tyler Stagliano and Nussbaumer all had two hits for the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays also suffered a heartbreaking loss against the A’s as Carson held a 6-5 lead before the A’s scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carson stayed in the game despite being outhit 14-4. Garritt Benivedez led the Blue Jays, going 2-for-4.
Carson played the Rebels on Friday night at Ron McNutt Field.
