Longtime Douglas High athletic coach John Glover has taken over as the Tigers’ new athletic director.
The move came last week, but was confirmed by Glover on Monday.
Glover will take over for Marc Walling in the role.
Walling served in the role for a handful of years before taking a new job within the district as the principal at George Whittell High School and Zephyr Cove Elementary.
“We’re going to miss Marc. I’ve come to learn in the last couple of days how good at his job he was,” said Glover. “I have a lot of questions for him. He was really good at what he did and Marc was that resource that I’m tapping and I’m grateful that he’s helping me.”
Glover enters his 20th year with Douglas High School this fall and said he felt it was his time to jump into a new position.
“There’s a couple factors, but I’ve been in the classroom for 20 years. I got my degree 11 years ago and I just thought it was time for a change,” said Glover.
The longtime Tiger softball coach says he still plans to continue coaching the softball team in the spring.
Prior to taking over as the softball skipper, Glover served as the baseball coach at Douglas.
As of now, the first-time athletic director is just looking to get his feet underneath him in a new position.
“Our biggest concern is just trying to keep the athletes out there. After last year’s COVID year, our goal is to have as many smooth athletic seasons as we can,” said Glover. “Get a little normalcy back at Douglas High. Our goal is to make this year as normal as possible can with things that are in our control.”
With the school year and athletic seasons fast approaching, Glover is anxious to get going in his new position with the black and orange.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity and this is a great place to work and it has been for a long time. I’m looking forward to helping this school keep going forward,” said Glover.
