Lyon County has hired Andrew Haskin as community development director.
Haskin has come to Lyon County with a strong background in economic development, according to a news release. He spent almost eight years with the Northern Nevada Development Authority.
He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a master of business administration degree and a bachelor's degree in business management and marketing.
The community development department consists of the planning division, building division, code enforcement, economic development division, engineering & surveying, and the airport. Lyon County has not had a community development director for the past several years due to budget constraints.
County Manager Jeff Page requested the Board of Commissioners to budget the position last fall. The county had conducted a number of interviews before offering the position to Haskins. Page said the county was looking for someone that had strong leadership skills, understood the variety of community interests in Lyon County, and was not going to apply a cookie-cutter approach to the department.
