The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a $17,653 rural marketing grant to distribute up to 20,000 outdoor recreational brochures and 10,000 Dayton and Mound House maps.
The grant came from the Nevada Division of Tourism and Travel Nevada.
In 2020, the chamber was awarded $3,500 and then an additional $14,150 in COVID-19 funds to print and distribute 30,000 maps of Dayton and Mound House. A total of 18,000 maps have been distributed throughout California, Northern Nevada and Lyon County.
In 2021, the chamber was awarded $10,000 to print and distribute 22,500 outdoor recreation brochures featuring an off-highway vehicle map of the Pine Nuts and Flowery Range, as well as a list of all neighborhood parks, RV parks, state parks, camping sites and nearby commercial lodging. The “Portal to the Pine Nuts and the Gateway to the Comstock” brochure will be ready for distribution in January.
This award funds additional distribution and printing of the map and outdoor recreation brochure.
Brittnee Somers, vice president of events for the chamber, said, “We are grateful for the support from Travel Nevada and the Nevada State Department of Tourism. The Dayton Area and Lyon County offer excellent outdoor recreation and historical tourism opportunities and represent why we love living here. Lyon County has a lot of dirt roads to explore.”
Somers, a local realtor, has served on the board for five years and leads the two-day Dayton Valley Days festival.
