Carson City has set a record for youngest mayor. Abby Bindley, age 5, fulfilled her Christmas wish by acting as junior mayor at the Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday morning.
“We were in good spirits, and we just happened to get lucky that we had a short meeting,” Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell told the Appeal. Bindley’s mother had reached out to Bagwell with the request.
During the proceedings, Bindley sat next to Bagwell and waved at city officials in the audience. She spun her chair thoughtfully, clutched a stuffed animal giraffe in her lap, and helped Bagwell bang the gavel to open and close the meeting.
Afterwards, the board issued her a certificate to formalize her position as junior mayor for a day and wish her well in her future goals.
