Fallon photographer Mike Herb’s image of downtown Fallon at Christmas caught the eye of District Court Judge Tom Stockard the moment he saw it.
“We felt that this photo captured the essence of what makes Fallon so special and how our community comes together in the center of town not only at Christmas time, but for many other local events and celebrations throughout the year,” Stockard said.
Looking at blank space on the wall of the courthouse just past the security gate, he knew he wanted to hang the image that captured this community in that spot.
Herb shot the image from the south end of Maine Street and incorporated the historic 1903 courthouse and the downtown Christmas tree at its best. Herb, who is relocating to Tennessee this month, had been wanting to take an image of the downtown area at Christmas time with wet pavement and got his chance in December of last year.
“The tripod was too short, so I put my Sony a7R-IV camera on the ground and hand-held it,” Herb said. “At 1/10 second of exposure, I was shocked it was focused.”
