Horsford: Yerington to get $598,000 for school safety

Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., has nine community projects in Congressional District 4 that will be funded in federal appropriations legislation, including school safety in Yerington.
He said the projects total more than $7.3 million and will have will have a far reaching impact in the district that stretches from northern Clark County to Lyon, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral, Nye and White Pine counties.
The largest is $2 million to the Northern Nye County Hospital District to help get a new hospital up and running. The former hospital closed its doors in 2015, leaving northern Nye County without a hospital.
Another $41 million will go for a civic center in Pahrump and $598,000 for school transit and safety projects in Yerington.
The Nevada Division of Parole and Probation will get $235,000 for its “from supervision to success” recidivism reduction program.
Also on the list is $125,000 for Best Buddies International to expand inclusion programs to nine schools in the district. Best buddies provides opportunities including employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Other projects include $1.5 million for street improvements in historic west Las Vegas and $1 million for a micro-business park in Southern Nevada.
