The first doses of the Janssen vaccine created by Johnson & Johnson have arrived in Nevada.

The key difference from the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines is that the Janssen vaccine only requires one shot instead of two. In addition, it is stable at regular refrigerator temperatures.

The advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has issued a statement saying there is no preference for any of the three authorized vaccines. All three are rated as highly effective and experts encourage Nevadans to accept any of the three that is offered to them.

Task Force Director Caleb Cage and Child and Family Health Director Candice McDaniel said the positivity rate is now down to just 7.1 percent and the number of patients hospitalized continues to decline.

The Nevada Hospital Association says the state now has a significant amount of intensive care beds and ventilators for patients who need them.

The hospital association also reports that Nevada has very low flu case rates this year. They said that’s because many of the mitigation measures Nevadans are following to slow the spread of the coronavirus also help slow the spread of the flu.
