7 COVID-19 deaths reported in Carson City, Lyon County

Carson City Health and Human Services on Thursday reported seven COVID-19 deaths in the Quad County region from Oct. 14 to Oct. 20.
Lyon County had four deaths and Carson City had three deaths.
For the week, CCHHS also reported 274 new cases, and 219 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 19,745, with 15,192 recoveries and 318 deaths; 4,235 cases remain active.

Carson City had 3 deaths, 104 new cases, and 69 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 13 new cases per day with a 6.0% test positivity rate.
Douglas County had 61 new cases and 57 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 6 new cases per day with a 10.3% test positivity rate.
Lyon County had 4 deaths, 106 new cases, and 92 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 11 new cases per day with a 11.7% test positivity rate.
Storey County had 3 new cases and 1 additional recovery of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 33.3% test positivity rate.
 
COVID-19 Vaccination Update
 
As of October 20, 2021, approximately 187,636 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 71,165 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Approximately 84,165 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 91,868 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna. This number also includes those who completed the series). Data is not CCHHS’ and is taken from the Nevada Health Response Dashboard which can be found at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/.
In Carson City, 32,478 residents have been completely vaccinated and 35,306 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 64.3% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Douglas County, 24,726 residents have been completely vaccinated and 26,765 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 56.1% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Lyon County, 26,185 residents have been completely vaccinated and 28,946 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 51.5% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Storey County, 776 residents have been completely vaccinated and 851 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 20% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
 
Quad-County Breakthrough Cases 
Vaccine breakthrough cases are U.S. residents with a SARS-CoV2 RNA or antigen detected in a respiratory specimen collected greater than or equal 14 days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. A complete vaccination is two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, the overall vaccinated case rate for the Quad County region is 1,144 per 100k population. This means that out of the total population in the quad county region who are fully vaccinated, approximately 1,255 people out of 100k are cases. Since February 1, 2021, the overall unvaccinated case rate for the Quad County region is approximately 14,138 people out of 100k are cases. It is important to note that no vaccine is 100 percent effective at preventing illness. As the number of fully vaccinated people increases and community transmission increase, breakthrough cases are expected rise.
 
Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
 
All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. Pfizer booster doses are available for those who are eligible.
