In the wake of the state health board vote to require shots, Gov. Steve Sisolak on Tuesday signed the emergency order requiring state employees and contractors who work with vulnerable populations in health care and correctional facilities be vaccinated.
He said proof of vaccination will be required by Nov. 1.
The Board of Health voted 4-0 to approve an emergency regulation requiring shots for those workers at a meeting Friday. That vote came after Sisolak’s medical advisory team recommended the requirement.
The emergency regulations will be in effect for 120 days but will have to go through a more rigorous public process if they are to be made permanent.
Other state workers and contractors not in close contact to the vulnerable people are required to either vaccinate or get tested weekly to continue working in state government.
Sisolak said the vaccines are incredibly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death. He urged every Nevadan to get vaccinated to protect themselves and those around them including children under 12 who don’t qualify for a shot yet.
